Centenary Baseball Match 

St Michael’s Select v Sporting Celebrities 

Sunday 29th June 12.30pm knock off at Coronation Park; Newport (home of St Michael’s Old Boys Baseball Club for over 60 years) will be the venue for a very special Baseball match. The match will be played between a St Michael’s Select team, which will contain players who have taken to the diamond in the green, white & gold of St Michael’s over the last 40 years including former Welsh Baseball Captain Tony Murphy and present Welsh Baseball Captain Norman Parselle. The Sporting Celebrities team will contain sportsmen from the past such as former Welsh football internationals Peter Nicholas (Arsenal, Aberdeen & Chelsea) Nathan Blake (Bolton, Blackburn & Wolves) and David Giles (Cardiff City, Swansea City & Crystal Palace) John Relish former (Newport County player & manager) and Cohen Griffith (Cardiff City). Alongside them will be the present sportsmen Footballers James Collins (West Ham & Wales) Michael Flynn (Blackpool) Mo Nasir (Welsh Boxer & Commonwealth Bronze medallist) Ashley Smith and Lewis Evans (Newport Gwent Dragons). There is no admission fee to watch the game, which promises to be a fun occasion and fitting way to celebrate the 100 years of St Michael’s Old Boys Baseball Club. After the game the celebrations will continue back at the Clubs headquarters the Irish Club, Commercial Road, Pillgwenlly, Newport.
